The Sistine Chapel is the principal chapel of the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City and one of the most celebrated sacred spaces in the world. Built between 1473 and 1481 under the patronage of Pope Sixtus IV, from whom it takes its name, the chapel has served for centuries as the setting for the most important ceremonies of the papal household.

The chapel is renowned for its extraordinary frescoes, particularly the ceiling painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, depicting scenes from the Book of Genesis, including the iconic Creation of Adam.
