Following its rapid growth, His Holiness elevates the Apostolic Prefecture of Australia and Oceania to the level of an Apostolic Vicariate. The aforementioned Vicariate continues serving the same territory and remains the fastest growing juridistiction of our community.
The Holy Father, in anticipation of further growth, sees fit to elevate Rev. Fr. Vincent Alvarez to the Order of Bishops. Bishop-elect Vincent will continue fruitfully serving the Australian-Oceanian Vicariate as its head, now as a Vicar Apostolic.

Conclave for the Election of His Holiness, Vincent I

HABEMUS PAPAM! This evening the Vatican City witnessed a historical moment with the celebration of the traditional Missa Pro Eligendo Summo Pontifice and the Papal Conclave for the election of a new Pontiff. After eight ballots and a period of reflection, the College of Cardinals chose a new Holy Father, who was publicly announced by the Camerlengo and late Secretary of State.

While the Conclave was taking place inside the Sistine Chapel, Saint Peter's Square was crowded by more than 135 clergy and faithful who were awaiting for the new Pope to appear on the balcony of the Basilica. The Holy See now enters a new period of renovation and changes under the pontificate of the newly elected Holy Father Vincent I, who is expected to issue a statement and appoint a new Roman Curia during the next few days. The Vatican City expresses gratitude to the international community for the support received lately.
Solemn Funeral Mass of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVII

Yesterday evening, the Funeral Mass for the late Holy Father Benedict XVII took place at Saint Peter's Square. This historical and solemn liturgy gathered more than 120 attendees, among whom were delegates from the international community, clergy, and faithful willing to express their most sincere condolences to the deceased Pontiff. The ceremony enmarked the ending of a chapter in the history of the State of Vatican City, after two years of fruitful reign of Benedict XVII, the longest-serving Pope. After the public liturgy, the remains of the deceased Bishop of Rome were procesed inside Saint Peter's Basilica and buried in the Vatican grottoes in a private ceremony led by a Cardinal. The Vatican City continues to settle up the Conclave for the election of a new successor of Peter and thanks the international community for the support given during these times of mourning and sorrow.
Viewing of His Holiness, Benedict XVII

Yesterday afternoon, the solemn procession for the receiving of the body of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVII, took place at the Sistine Chapel. During this huge event, the faithful, clergy, and officials present in the chapel paid their respects to the remains of the late Pontiff. After the solemn procession, the attendees had the opportunity to engage in the further Eastern Orthodox Memorial Service, celebrated by a group of clerics from different Orthodox Churches. Different services and prayers are expected to happen during the rest of the day until half an hour before the funeral. The respective Funeral Mass of the deceased Holy Father will take place today, 6th of August, at 22:00 Roman Time (21:00 British Time, 16:00 Eastern Time) at Saint Peter's Square. The Holy See welcomes the international community to attend the Mass and expresses its gratitude for its support during these difficult mourning times.
